SANCTIONED AL-NUSRA FRONT IS ALIAS OF AL-QEADA IN IRAQ

The Treasury Department, as predicted last week*, has now designated the radical Islamic Syrian Opposition group as a terrorist organisation, but there is more to the story than that. Al-Nusra reportedly employs the exact same strategies, tactics and philosophy as Al-Qaeda in Iraq, and the conclusion is that it is the very same group, using another name; AQI today, Al-Nusra tomorrow.

Some designated global terrorist organisations are known to use as many as thirty aliases, front designations, or variations on their identity, both to deceive donors, and to confuse law enforcement agencies, and military intelligence agents on their trail. Many commercial off-the-shelf databases list several known aliases, but there are always more. Remember this, and always employ the broadest searches possible, when conducting Due Diligence or Enhanced Due Diligence investigations on prospective entities, especially those that claim they are NGOs, or charitable organisations.
