IRANIAN SANCTIONS EVADER WAS LAUNDERING MONEY IN THE DOM REP, AND COMMUNICATING WITH AGENTS IN USA

An eyewitness in the Dominican Republic has come forward, and revealed details of the activities of the extradited Iran sanctions evader, Alireza Monfared, whose possession of a diplomatic passport, reportedly issued by Dominica's Prime Minister, has sparked a firestorm of global debate, over whether such documents needlessly raise money laundering and terrorist financing risks, and should be abolished, by the Caribbean nations that exact clearly excessive fees from dodgy applicants.

The individual, a professional, reports that Monfared was seen laundering cash, by funding construction projects in the Dom Rep*. Additionally, he has been in contact with individuals located in the United States, for unknown purposes, which is illegal under American laws and regulations, due to existing OFAC sanctions in place, against Iran. Whether he was in illegal contact with Americans, while he evaded INTERPOL by living in Dominica, is not known.

His contacts with US nationals or residents, given that he is a known Iranian intelligence agent, is disturbing; since the Shah fell from power in Iran, there have been persistent accounts of an Iranian spy ring, operating in the United States, with assets located in Los Angeles, due to the presence of a large Persian expat population there. The assets are said to include a large number of university students, but further details have never been declassified and released to the public, notwithstanding that Iranian nationals have given information verifying its existance.

This raises the issue: was Alireza Monfared in contact with an Iranian espionage ring,  located in the continental United States, while he enjoyed safe haven in Dominica for six months, and was he engaged in money laundering at that time ? This may explain the complex, circuitous route, Monfared took, when being returned to Iran.

* Remember, Monfared's "ordinary" Dominican economic passport, not the diplomatic one, has never been cancelled, notwithstanding his exposure as unsuitable, under the country's citizenship by investment program.
